Harriers 10k Champions Jenny Latham & Matthew O'Connor

The Wakefield Hospice 10k road race attracted another good entry of nearly 2000 runners, with some good performances from the Wakefield Harriers competing in the event. Conditions were good, and several Harriers recorded good PBs on the undulating out and back course along Horbury Road.
Wakefield Harriers had their first individual winner of the race, as Matthew O'Connor had an outstanding run to win the race outright in a superb new PB of 32:52. M40 Stewart Knowles also recorded a great new PB of 35:56 as he finished in 16th place, and he was followed by U20 runners Brendon Wain & Mark Bostock with more PBs of 36:44 & 36:56 respectively. Also under 40 minutes were Glenn Shelley with 39:18 and Chris Rippon, recording 39:45 in his first race as an M50.
Jenny Latham won the Ladies race for the 2nd year in a row in a new PB of 36:27, Faye Beckett was 3rd lady in 38:12, and with Libby Greatorex 13th lady in 42:35 the Wakefield Ladies won the team prize, to complete a successful day for the club. Also inside 45 minutes was Sarah Bostwick with 43:09, and U20 Hayley Newbound wasn't far away with 45:31. Race Results.
The race also incorporated the Club 10k Road Race Championship, and it was the second time that Matthew and Jenny have won the title.
It was also the 7th round of the Club Distance Runners League Championship, which is currently led by Hugh Allen, with Faye Beckett in 2nd place.
