7th Jul 2013. Northern Mens & Womens League Division 1 Match 3.
The senior team had another solid result at the third round of Northern Mens & Womens League Division 1 at Sportcity in Manchester, finishing 3rd. The host club had many of their British League 'A' team competing, and ran out winners on this occasion, and with just one match remaining they are level with us at the top of the division, 3 points clear of the next team. However for the final round of the league at Wakefield the BAL is on the same day, so Manchester won't have those athletes available, and so we must be favourites now to win the title.
Amongst many good performances there were excellent 'A' string wins by Mikaela Harrison (400m 55.8s), Helen Singleton (800m 2m 13.2s & 1500m 4m 37.9s), Jenna Wheatman (Hammer 50.55m), Scott Atkinson (400m 48.4s) & Mark Lindsay (Javelin 52.51m), and also a Grade 2 performance from Lucy Holmes (3rd Shot 10.82m).
Match Result :- City of Manchester 409, Kingston-U-Hull 380, Wakefield Harriers 349, Preston Harriers 319, Leigh 293, Bolton 276. Meeting Results.

7th Jul 2013. Another New M60 Club Record from Peter Gooding at Eccup 10 Mile.
There were very hot conditions for this year's Eccup 10 Mile Road race, so times were generally much slower than usual. However Peter Gooding was the exception, as he improved on last year and ran a New M60 10 Mile Club Record of 71 mins 30 secs. Helen Beck was our first runner home in 108th overall out of 750 runners, in 70 mins 56 secs. It was also the 7th race in this year’s Club Distance Runners League Championship, and after her PB at Eccup Joanne Biltcliffe takes the lead. Race Results.

6th Jul 2013. Annabel Mason finishes 8th at European Mountain Running Championships.
Annabel Mason was once again selected to compete for the Great Britain Junior Women’s team at the European Mountain Running Championships, which this year were held at Borovets in Bulgaria. A recent injury meant that she wasn’t on her best form to successfully defend the title she won last year, but she still did exceptionally well to finish in 8th place, and 2nd runner home from Great Britain, and helped the Great Britain team finish 2nd, just 2 points behind Russia.

5th/6th Jul 2013. Two Silver Medals from Harriers at English Schools T&F Championships.
Wakefield Harriers were well represented again at the English Schools Track & Field Championships at Birmingham, and they produced some great performances, with 2 silver medals won. Scott Atkinson was close to his recent U20 club record when he came 2nd in the Senior Boys 400m with 47.97s, after running 48.99s in his heat. Abigail Roberts jumped close to her best in the Inter Girls Pole Vault with a superb 3.70m, and it took a championship best performance from the winner to beat her.
Other club members competing for West Yorkshire Schools were Kieran Thackray (11th Senior Boys Hammer 52.06m), William Rotherforth (7th ht Senior Boys 200m in 22.71s), Bethany Sharp (5th ht Senior Girls 400m Hurdles 68.92s), Rebecca Tolson (14th Inter Girls High jump 1.54m), Rebecca Firth (9th ht 1 Inter Girls 1500m 4m 48.96s), Lucy Robinson (9th ht 2 Inter Girls 1500m 4m 51.84s) and Ben Read (6th ht Inter Boys 800m 1m 59.65s).

3rd Jul 2013. Fifth Round of West Yorkshire T&F League at Cleckheaton.
There were some good competitions at the fifth round of the West Yorkshire Track & Field League at Cleckheaton, including one new league record, but Lucy Holmes was our only top grade performer with her Shot Putt of 10.60m.
With just one meeting to go Bethany Porter is well clear in the Junior/Senior Womens Competition, though three other Harriers also have excellent chances of winning the title in their categories. Jessica Eyles is just 1 point off the lead in the U17 Women, Patrick Thackray just 2 off the lead in the U17 Men, and Alexander Rogers is 3 points off the lead in the U15 Boys. Wakefield Harriers are almost certain to finish top club overall once again.

3rd Jul 2013. Tom Coney finished 2nd in 800m at Inter Services Athletics Championships.
Tom Coney was representing The Army at the Inter Services Athletics Championships, and he was not far off his best when finishing 2nd in the 800m, running the fine time of 1m 56.14 secs.

2nd Jul 2013. Harriers Competing in Jane Tomlinson 5Km Canal Race.
Several Wakefield Harriers competed in the Jane Tomlinson 5Km Canal Race, organised by Rothwell Harriers at Methley. We didn't have the dominance we had last year, but Andrew Cartwright did well to come 3rd. Glenn Shelley was 17th and Selim Khan 20th.
