2019 Club News October - December
17th Dec 2019. Wakefield Harriers Christmas Handicap
What an absolutely epic race!
41 runners took part with the majority of runners rising to the occasion and crushing their predicted times.
One keen runner ran so fast they created holes in their socks, but that’s another story (Eileen Mannion).
I want to congratulate our handicap race winner Tom Coney for running at blistering speed and completely catching
us off guard finishing over 3 minutes faster than predicted in 25 mins and 9 secs.
Our fastest lady of the evening was Abbey Brooke with an incredible time of 28 mins 57 secs.
The fastest Junior was Josh Dawson in an extraordinary time of 26 mins 42 secs.
Our fastest runner was Ben ‘the bullet’ Butler who finished in a time of 23 mins and 25 secs, creating a slip stream
that some people believe could account for so many people achieving PBs on the course. Special mention has to go to Daz Hewitt,
Josh Dawson, Eileen Mannion, Sophie Hall and Mark Whitehouse who all took home the bragging writes of finishing 2 minutes faster
than their predicted time.

This year Glenn Shelley won the raffle to take on the London Marathon on behalf of the Club and we wish him all the best in
his preparation.
I want to take the opportunity to specifically thank Craig Heppenstall and Keith Singleton without whose help the event would not
have taken place. A huge thanks to all who volunteered on the night and helped make the event such a success.
