2011 Club News October - December

31st Dec 2011. UK Senior Rankings for 2011 - Club has 8 top 50 Ranked Athletes.
In the World and UK top 50 rankings, published recently in Athletics Weekly, the club did well to have 8 athletes in the UK top 50, and with one athlete ranked in the World's top 50.
Emily Freeman was injured all year, and Charlene Thomas had her season cut short because of injury, and failed to make the world's top 50 this year, but we still had one world ranked athlete once again. Martyn Bernard was 2nd in the UK Rankings in the High Jump with his best of 2.28m, which ranked him equal 29th= in the world!

The club had 7 athletes in the UK Senior Women's Top 50 Rankings :-
Charlene Thomas was 4th in the 3000m (9:01.43), 5th in the 1500m (4:06.85) & 36th in the 800m (2m 06.83) ;
Julie Briscoe was 11th in the Half Marathon (1h 13:28) & 13th in the Marathon (2h 41:07) ;
Zara Hohn was 13th in the 100m Hurdles (13.75) ;
Sarah Bostwick was 23rd in the 3000m SC (11:56.45) & 31st in the 2000m SC (7:35.95) ;
Naida Bromley was 31st in the 400m Hurdles (62.75s) ;
Lucy Holmes (U20) was 32nd in the Shot (12.51m) ;
Ruth Dales was 47th in the Heptathlon (3898 pts).

The club had 1 athlete in the UK Senior Men's Top 50 Rankings :-
Martyn Bernard was ranked 2nd= (outdoors) in the High Jump (2.28m).

31st Dec 2011. Several Harriers Compete in Auld Lang Syne Fell Race.

Several Harriers braved the wet and very muddy conditions to compete in the 18th Auld Lang Syne fell race on the Bronte Moors above Haworth. Pete McNamara was our first runner home in 75th, out of a quality field of nearly 400, which included the Brownlee brothers. They had their own private battle at the head of the field, after asking our own Santa Claus to let them have Olympic triathlon medals in 2012, whilst our ladies did well in the fancy dress competition too! The race was also the final round of the Club Distance Runners League Championship. Chris Ward was the overall winner, ahead of Paul Robinson, with Neil Dutton just 1 point behind in third. Pete McNamara finished 4th and could have won had he been able to complete 8 races.

26th/27th Dec 2011. Julie Briscoe Returns from injury to Win Ward Green 6.
Julie Briscoe had her first race after several weeks off with a hamstring injury, and returned to winning ways. She finished first lady in the Ward Green 6 Mile road race, coming home 14th overall in 36m 17s on the hilly course. Claire Sykes was 2nd in the F35 category, and Stuart Anderson won the M70 category. Results from Power of 10.
Also competing on the roads was Paul Lockwood, who finished 57th in a time of 32 mins 43 secs in a high class field at the Ribble Valley 10K at Clitheroe, which also incorporated the Northern 10k Championships. Results from Power of 10.

20th Dec 2011. Kia Lewis Wins 2011 Junior Christmas Handicap Road Race.
There was also a good turnout of runners for the Junior Christmas Handicap Road Race, with 31 young athletes running the new course round the perimeter of the park. U11 Kia Lewis won the race, ahead of fellow U11 Max Rose and U15 Cameron Dye. Fastest time was 10 mins 47 secs by U15 William Ingram, ahead of Ben Read & George Heppinstall, with U15 Faye Beckett being fastest girl in 12 mins 16 secs. 20th Dec 2011. The Club's Allocation of London Marathon Places.
The club's 4 London Marathon places have now been allocated. We originally had 6 people with rejection slips, but by the time of the draw only 4 still wanted to be considered, so they were each given one of the places. So congratulations to Martin Holding, Nicky Steel, Peter Young & Rob Hyatt, and we wish them the best in London in April.

20th Dec 2011. Holly Hume Wins 2011 Senior Christmas Handicap Road Race.
There was a good turnout of 37 runners for the Senior Christmas Handicap Road Race, with several new club members taking part for the first time, and four prospective new members who ran as guests. Indeed it was one of the guests Selim Khan who was first across the line, but first club member to finish was the improving Holly Hume, who took home the coveted trophy. Martin Holding had a good run to finish 3rd, with Matthew Dodsworth 4th ahead of the main pack, who had a great burn up on the final lap of the track. Chris Price ran the fastest actual time with 24 min 50 secs, ahead of U17 Stephen Eastwood, with Sarah Bostwick being the fastest lady this year.
The handicappers did a good job again, with two thirds of the runners racing it out on the track at the end of the 4.5 mile course. Nicola Steel took the award for being closest to her expected time, being just two seconds away, and most of the field were within a minute of their expected times. 18th Dec 2011. Harriers Compete in Denby Dale Travellers 6 Mile Road Race.
Several Wakefield Harriers tackled the many hills around Denby Dale to take part in the annual Travellers 6 Road Race, which was also the 15th round of the Club Distance Runners League Championship. Neil Dutton was first man home in 12th place, ahead of Pete McNamara and Paul Robinson. With just one race to go Chris Ward still leads the Championship, ahead of Paul, and with Neil just 1 point behind in third. Download Results from Denby Dale Travellers.

17th Dec 2011. Second Northern Indoor Open Meeting.
Once again several Wakefield athletes took part in the 2nd Northern Athletics Indoor Open Meeting at the EIS in Sheffield, with some good performances recorded.

15th Dec 2011. UK Track & Field Junior Age Group Rankings for 2011.
In the UK age group top 20 rankings, published recently in Athletics Weekly, the club has 12 athletes ranked, up from 8 last year. Congratulations to them all for their excellent prformances :-
U13G Abbey Ward was 4th in the High Jump (1.51m).
U15G Abigail Roberts was 5th= in the Pole Vault (3.10m); Sophie Woollin was 20th in the 800m (2m 17.5s).
U17W Grace Eyles was 3rd in the 300m (39.22s), 7th in the 200m (24.85s) & 16th in the 100m (12.2s) ; Bethany Sharp was 6th in the 300m Hurdles (44.28s); Bethany Porter was 10th in the Heptathlon (4099 pts); Abigail Roberts (U15) was 20th= in the Pole Vault (3.10m).
U20W Lucy Holmes was 11th in the Shot (12.51m); Samantha Brook was 17th in the 400m Hurdles (64.67s).
U15B Andrew Jones was 11th in the Pole Vault (3.10m).
U17M Scott Atkinson was 18th in the 200m (22.40s) & 5th in the 400m (48.68s when with Spenborough); Jake Worton was 18th in the 1500m SC (4m 36.88s).
U20M Benjamin Holmes was 13th= in the High Jump (2.00m).

6th Dec 2011. Top Post With England Athletics for Kerry Eddie.
Kerry Eddie (formerly Jury), Wakefield's former international heptathlete and England Commonwealth Games competitor, has been appointed by England Athletics as National Coach Mentor for Combined Events. Read story from England Athletics

5th Dec 2011. New Members Joining Wakefield Harriers in December.

4th Dec 2011. New Indoor U17 Pole Vault Club Record from Abigail Roberts.
Abigail Roberts, now a first year U17, competed at the Manchester Indoor Open Meeting at Sport City, and increased her own U17 indoor pole vault record to 3.10m, which also equals her outdoor best set this summer as an U15. Meeting Results.

4th Dec 2011.  Good Times Recorded at Percy Pud 10k in Sheffield.
Nathan Elliot ran his first road race of the year, and finished 16th in 34 mins 39 secs in the Percy Pud 10k in Sheffield, a time which moves him to 3rd in this year's club rankings. Julie Greenwood also had a good run, running a new PB time of 41 mins 08 secs for 5th in our ladies club rankings. Race Results.

4th Dec 2011.  2011 Club Cross Country Championships.
The final meeting of the Complete Runner Cross Country League at Thornes Park incorporated the Club Cross Country Championships. The cold and very wet conditions made it tough for all the runners, and also for all the marshals and helpers who made the event possible. Many thanks to them, and to Fiona Lancaster & Tracy Mitchell for taking the pictures and doing the presentations. Results and photos of all the medallists.

4th Dec 2011. U15 Girls are Complete Runner Cross Country League Champions.
In the overall Complete Runner Cross Country League team competitions the U15 Girl's team dominated their age group, winning all 4 races by a huge margin. The U15 Boys & U17 Men were both 2nd, the U13 Girls 4th, and the senior men had another solid season to finish 5th overall in the league.
In the individual league competitions Annabel Mason won all 4 races, to easily win the U15 Girl's title for the 2nd year running. Team-mate Rebecca Firth finished 2nd, and Matthew O'Connor came 2nd in the U17 Men's category, just losing the overall title on countback. Other individual medals were won by Dave Brailsford (2nd M55), John Mason (3rd M45) & Matthew Hill (3rd U11B).
Top ten finishes were achieved by Bethan Oates (4th U13G), William Ingram (4th U15B), Sam Convery (5th U15B), George Heppinstall (6th U15B), Edward Dunbavin (7th U13B), Sophie Woollin (8th U15G), Steve Eastwood (8th U17M), Mark Whitehouse (8th M50), Carl Quinn (9th M40) & Faye Beckett (10th U15G). 4th Dec 2011.  Final Complete Runner Cross Country League at Wakefield.
The club successfully hosted the 4th and final meeting of the Complete Runner Cross Country League at Thornes Park, in cold and wet conditions. The senior men had their best team result of the season with an excellent 4th place, with Paul Lockwood making his first cross country appearance of the season to finish a fine 15th. He was well supported by Chris Price in 34th, John Mason 38th, Chris Ward 43rd, Stephen Tilford 63rd & Neil Dutton 86th, and we had a good turnout of 19 men competing. In the ladies race we just had 2 runners, with U20 Sally Smith having a solid first outing in 17th.
In the younger age groups there was another team victory from the U15 Girls, with Annabel Mason continuing her dominance with her 4th win of the season, ahead of Chloe Fitton 8th & Rachael Firth 9th. The U15 Boys were also victorious, the team of William Ingram 3rd, Sam Convery 6th, George Heppinstall 8th & Robert Sanderson 19th having their first win of the season. Bethan Oates was an excellent 3rd in the U13 Girl's race, and with Laura Sanderson 13th & Holly Kitchen 17th the team were 3rd, as were the U17 Boy's trio of Matthew O'Connor 6th, Steven Eastwood 9th & Daniel Franks 12th. In the junior races where we didn't have a complete team, there were top 10 finishes from Edward Dunbavin (8th U13 Boys) and Matthew Hill (2nd U11 Boys).

26th Nov 2011. Charlene Thomas Finishes 14th at Trials for European Cross Country.
Several of the club's leading distance runners competed against top class competition at the McCain UK Cross Challenge races at Sefton Park, Liverpool, which also incorporated the trials for the forthcoming European Cross Country Championships.
After returning from another spell of warm weather training in Kenya, Charlene Thomas ran her first race since injury ruined her summer season, and finished an excellent 14th in a high class field, and just 45 secs away from a place in the GB team. There was also a good showing by the Harriers in the U17 Men's race, with James Saxton 33rd, Matthew O'Connor 41st & Steve Eastwood 68th, and good runs from George Heppinstall 56th & Sam Convery 61st in the U15 Boys race. 20th Nov 2011. Third Complete Runner Cross Country League Meeting.
At the third meeting of the Complete Runner Cross Country League at Shipley, the club had another good turnout, with the U15 Girls continuing to dominate their age group. For the third meeting running Annabel Mason was a convincing individual winner, and with Rebecca Firth 3rd & Sophie Woolin 8th the team were clear winners again. The strong 'B' team of Faye Beckett 10th, Chloe Fitton 11th & Rachael Firth 12th again beat all the other clubs except one. Sam Convery & George Heppinstall had their best runs so far to finish 4th & 6th in the U15 Boy's race, and Ben Reid 14th & William Ingram 16th ensured their team finished 2nd. Matthew O'Connor lost his unbeaten streak to finish 5th in the U17 Men's race, and with Steven Eastwood 10th & Daniel Franks 15th the team came 2nd as well. In the junior races where we didn't have a complete team, there were top 10 finishes from Bethan Oates (5th U13 Girls) and Matthew Hill (3rd U11 Boys).
The fields in the senior races were depleted because of the clash with the 10K races in Leeds & Barnsley, but the men still had a good turnout of 12 runners, and packed well to finish 7th. John Mason lead the team home in 20th, and he was well supported by Matthew Dodsworth in 50th, Carl Quinn 52nd, Dave Brailsford 63rd, Neil Dutton 74th & Mark Whitehouse 94th. Katie McHale made a welcome return to competition with a fine 16th place in the Ladies race.

20th Nov 2011. Barnsley 10k Road Race Results.
Several Harriers competed in the Barnsley 10K Road Race from Royston, which along with the WYL XC made up the 13th round of the Club Distance Runners League Championship. It was good to see Steve & Denise Tibbs back racing again, and Steve was first man home from the club in a time of 39:11, finish 49th. Julie Greenwood was our first lady in 41:37, and 12th lady overall, her time being close to her best and good running on the hilly course. The evergreen Brian Fozard won the M70 category, running 51:42 and beating nearly half the field at the age of 74! Results from Power of 10.

20th Nov 2011. Excellent Performances at Leeds Abbey Dash 10K.
The club had some of it's leading distance runners competing in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10K Road Race, with some fast times recorded in the misty conditions. Jack Hallas ran his best 10K time to date, coming 34th in 31:27, the best by a Wakefield Harrier for many years. Helen Singleton had an excellent run to finish 2nd lady in 35:23, not far off her best from last year, and new recruit Stephen Tilford showed his potential with a fine PB of 36:14. Note that due to the huge field the chip times for most runners were a few seconds faster, and several other club members ran PBs on the fast out and back course.

19th Nov 2011. Young Hammer Throwers Successful at Hammer Pentathlon Championships.
Two of our young Hammer throwers were successful at the MMTG Hammer Pentathlon Championships, with Hannah Yates winning the U17 Ladies Championship, and Kieran Thackray coming 3rd in the U17 Men's Championship.

19th Nov 2011. Wakefield Harriers In Action at North of England Indoor Open.
At the first North of England Indoor Open Meeting at the EIS in Sheffield, the club had several athletes in action, with different ages competing in events together. Results from Power of 10.

13th Nov 2011. Results of Final Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix Race Series.
Several of our veteran distance runners took part in the 8th and final race of the popular Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix series, which was held at Spenborough. The men's team of Dave Brailsford 22nd, Jon Prideaux 25th, Mark Whitehouse 55th & Richard West 80th finished 7th team, and the improving Sharon Sykes was 12th in the ladies race. In the overall league standings the men's team finished 10th out of the 30 competing clubs, and individually Peter McNamara finished 2nd in the M50 category. All Results & Tables from YVAA.

5th Nov 2011. Great Team Results at English National Cross Country Relay Championships.
The club had an excellent turnout of runners again at the English National Cross Country Relay Championships at Mansfield, with full teams in most age groups competing against the best cross country runners in the country. The conditions were very wet and muddy, which didn't suit the 'track runners', and times were slower than in previous years.
The Senior Men had a solid performance in their 4 x 5K event, with their 'A' team of Jack Hallas (16:56), Nathan Elliott (18:59), John Convery (18:46) & Matthew Dodsworth (20:39) finishing 66th, and the 'B' team of Steve Faulkner (20:29), Neil Dutton (20:47), Dave Brailsford (20:43) & Dave Dawson (22:59) coming 123rd out of the 157 complete teams. The Senior Women's team of Sharon Marshall (13:10), Katie McHale (11:50) & Helen Singleton (11:34) ran well to come a very creditable 38th in their 3 x 3K race, out of 104 complete teams.
For the younger athletes the best result was from the U15 Girl's trio of Rebecca Firth (7:22), Faye Beckett (8:09) & Sophie Woollin (8:01), who repeated their superb 10th place from last year in their 3 x 2K race, and were first team home from Yorkshire. Rebecca in particular was outstanding, winning leg 1, and running the 3rd fastest time of the day. The 'B' team of Stephanie Rodgers (8:07), Saskia Lewis (8:33) & Rachael Firth (8:12) also did exceptionally well to come 27th team overall, and 2nd 'B' team. Such is our depth in this age group we also had a 'C' team of Natalie Gill (9:21), Libby Hanley (9:05) & Lucy Robinson (8:54) who finished 81st out of 95 complete teams. The U17 Men's team of Matthew O'Connor (9:48), James Saxton (9:44) & Steve Eastwood (10:23) all performed well to come an excellent 22nd in their 3 x 3K event, and they were also first Yorkshire team. U15 Boy's ran well too, with Sam Convery (7:21), George Heppinstall (7:35) & William Ingram (7:01) finishing a very good 21st team, and the 'B' team of Robert Sanderson (7:36), Cameron Dye (8:07) & Ben Read (7:33) coming 57th in their 3 x 2K race. The other complete team we had was the U13 Girl's trio of Emily Gill (8:27), Laura Sanderson (8:34) & Olivia Theaker (8:44), who ran consistently well to finish 43rd in their 3 x 2K race.

2nd Nov 2011. Training Sessions for Senior Distance Runners now on Website.
Details of the training sessions organised for the senior distance runners who are not already following training schedules, and who wish to join in group training, will from now on be published as a new page Group Training with a link to it from the Road Running page. This page includes details of weekend training, from a variety of venues, and will be updated monthly.

29th Oct 2011. Cross Country Victories Again for Matthew O'Connor & Annabel Mason.
At the second meeting of the Complete Runner Cross Country League at York, the club had another good day, with two team victories and two individual winners from the 10 age group races.
As at the first meeting, Annabel Mason was a clear winner of the U15 Girl's race by more than a minute, from team mate Rebecca Firth, and with Sophie Woolin 8th the team were clear winners again. The strong 'B' team of Faye Beckett 11th, Rachael Firth 12th & Saskia Lewis 15th again beat all the other clubs except one. Matthew O'Connor was again also a clear winner of the U17 Men's race, and he was well supported by James Saxton 7th & Daniel Franks 11th to win their team race as well. The U15 Boy's team of William Ingram 5th, Sam Convery 6th, George Heppinstall 9th & Robert Sanderson 21st also performed well to come 2nd team, and the U13 Girl's team of Beth Oates 12th, Laura Sanderson 14th & Holly Kitchen 18th were 4th. In the U13 Boy's race Edward Dunbavin was a fine 6th, and there were also good runs in the U11 Boy's race from Matthew Hill in 3rd & Max Rose 11th.
The Senior Men had another good turnout of 12 runners, and even though they were missing several leading runners they packed well to finish 8th team. Our top M45 vets John Convery & John Mason ran well to finish 22nd & 25th, and they were backed up by Matt Dodsworth 70th, Dave Brailsford 79th, Carl Quinn 85th & Mark Whitehouse 118th. We didn't have a complete ladies team, but Sharon Sykes was our first lady home in 77th. Results of all Races

23rd Oct 2011. Woodland Challege Off-Road Race.
We had 11 Harriers competing in the Stadium Runners Woodland Challege Off-Road Race, which was also the 12th round of the Club Distance Runners League Championship. M50 Pete McNamara was first home from the club, ahead of Paul Robinson and Mark Whitehouse. Please note that there are many errors in the official results! Results from Power of 10.

21st Oct 2011. Disappointment for Wakefield Harriers International Athletes.
There was disappointment for all three of Wakefield Harriers' full international athletes, as Martyn Bernard, Emily Freeman & Charlene Thomas all lost their Lottery funding from UK Athletics for 2012. They had all had an injury ravaged year, so it wasn't entirely unexpected, but it was very unfair on Charlene in particular, after her fantastic run winning the 1500m for Great Britain in the European Team Championships.

20th Oct 2011. Wakefield Harriers Track & Field Presentation Evening.
The Wakefield Harriers Track & Field Presentation Evening will be held on Saturday 12th November at Featherstone Rovers RL Stadium. Tickets must be bought in advance, and can be purchased from the Harriers Cabin. Download details in Word, with list of trophy winners.

16th Oct 2011. Annabel Mason Wins English Schools Fell Running Championships.
Annabel Mason continues to win all the fell races in her age group, her latest success winning the English Schools Fell Running Championships for years 10-11, at Cockermouth. However this time she did have some serious competition, as she only just won by 5 seconds from Bronwen Owen, the National U15 Cross Country Champion. This is a significant win for Annabel, who was 6th in the National, and should give her confidence for this winter's cross country championships.

16th Oct 2011. Excellent Team Performances at ERRA Young Athletes Road Relays.
At the ERRA Young Athletes Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham, all the top teams from England were on show as usual, and the Harriers once again had some excellent team performances, with three teams beating all their Yorkshire rivals. This was a great show from the junior running section of the club.
The best result was by the U15 Girls, with Rebecca Firth (14:34), Faye Beckett (15:37) & Stephanie Rodgers (15:38) finishing an excellent 13th place, and 1st Yorkshire team, and the 'B' team of Sophie Woollin (15:43), Rachel Firth (15:50) & Natalie Gill (17:50) also did well to finish 34th. The U17 Men's team of Matthew O'Conner (12:23), James Saxton (12:38) & Steve Eastwood (13:33) also led home the Yorkshire clubs in a superb 15th place, & 2nd team from the North. Our U15 Boys weren't far behind, with a very good 17th place, the team of William Ingram (13:16), George Heppinstall (13:53) & Ben Read (14:05) all running well to beat all the other Yorkshire clubs. The 'B' team of Robert Sanderson (15:02), Andrew Jones (16:44) & Harry Mallinson (15:45) finished 46th. The U13 Girls team of Bethan Oates (15:52), Emily Gill (16:49) & Laura Sanderson (17:11) were our other complete team, and performed well to finish 27th. Results of all races from Sportsoft.

14th Oct 2011. Harriers Invited Again to Compete in Relay Race in France.

The club have been invited once again to take part in the annual relay race at Wakefield's twin town of Castres in France, on February 5th next year. This is a fantastic long distance event for senior runners of all abilities, and last year we had 16 Harriers competing, with the ladies team winning their category for the 2nd year running. 12th Oct 2011. Wakefield Harriers to Host Yorkshire Cross Country Championships.
Wakefield Harriers have been asked once again to host the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships. The event should move between West, South & North Yorkshire, and in 2012 was due to be hosted by a club in North Yorkshire. However the region has not been able to get their act together, so we are stepping in to help out, with the event being held on Saturday 7th January at Thornes Park.

9th Oct 2011. Two More Wakefield Harriers Complete Marathons.
The club had two more runners competing in marathons, with USA based M50 Mark Domaille running in the Chicago Marathon and recording a respectable 3 hrs 25 mins, and Minna Jones-Walters taking part in her first marathon, completing the tough multi-terrain Kielder Marathon in 3 hrs 47 mins.
Also competing on the roads was Paul Lockwood, who finished 18th in the high quality BUPA Yorkshire 10K at Sheffield in a time of 33 mins 09 secs, and Julie Greenwood was first lady home in the Shaun Lee Johnstone Memorial 10 Mile race in 72 mins 51 secs.

9th Oct 2011. Cross Country Victories for Matthew O'Connor & Annabel Mason.
At the first meeting of the Complete Runner Cross Country League at Nunroyd Park, the club had a good day, with one team victory and two individual winners from the 10 age group races.
Annabel Mason was a runaway winner of the U15 Girl's race, more than a minute clear of team mate Rebecca Firth, and with Sophie Woolin 7th the team were clear winners too. Our strength in this age group was underlined with the 'B' team of Stephanie Rodgers 9th, Faye Beckett 10th & Saskia Lewis 15th beating all the other clubs except one. Matthew O'Connor was also a clear winner of the U17 Men's race, and he was supported by Steve Eastwood 11th & Jack Mitchell 16th to finish 2nd team. The U15 Boy's team of William Ingram 5th, Sam Convery 7th, Ben Read 10th & Andrew Jones 16th also did well to come 2nd team. The U13 Girl's team of Beth Oates 3rd, Laura Sanderson 15th & Holly Kitchen 26th were 4th, and in the U13 Boy's race Edward Dunbavin was a fine 5th, and there was also a top 10 finish in the U11 Boy's race from Max Rose in 6th.


The Senior Men had a good turnout of 15 runners, and they packed well to finish a fine 5th team. They were led by John Mason finishing an excellent 28th, and he was well supported by John Convery 33rd, Chris Ward 47th, Carl Quinn 72nd, Pete McNamara 87th & Dave Brailsford 93rd. 3rd Oct 2011. New Members Elected to Harriers Committee at AGM.
At the Annual General Meeting there were a few changes to the Club Committee, with a few new members volunteering to help out, and some new team managers and captains. There are still a few positions vacant, so if any other club members wish to join the Committee then please let us know. See list of Committee Members for 2011/2012.

3rd Oct 2011. New Members Joining Wakefield Harriers in October.

2nd Oct 2011. Carl Quinn Completes Mablethorpe Marathon.
Carl Quinn chose one of the hottest weekends of the year to compete in the Mablethorpe Marathon, which this year incorporated the Police Championships. Not surprisingly Carl was way off his best time, but still ran an excellent 3 hrs 11 mins to finish 17th overall, and go top of this year's male club rankings.

1st Oct 2011. U11 Boys Win Northern Athletics Cross Country Relay Championships.
At the Northern Athletics Cross Country Relay Championships at Sheffield the club had teams in most age groups, and came away with a set of winners' medals. The U11 Boy's team (pictured right) of Matthew Hill (5:06), Max Rose (05:20) & Liam Grosse (5:37) got their young running careers off to a winning start, and led from start to finish to come home clear winners. The U15 Girl's team of Rebecca Firth (7:59), Stephanie Rodgers (8:17) & Sophie Woollin (8:36) were an excellent 5th, and the 'B' team of Faye Beckett (8:12), Saskia Lewis (8:40) & Rachel Firth (8:42) 11th, and the first 'B' team. The U15 Boy's team of Sam Convery (7:20), George Heppinstall (7:30) & William Ingram (7:23) all ran consistently to finish 10th, and the U13 Girl's team of Bethan Oates (6:03), Laura Sanderson (6:41) & Olivia Theaker (6:42) were 11th. The senior men's team of Chris Ward (11:10), John Convery (11:28), Neil Dutton (12:23) & Steve Faulkner (12:16) finished 19th, and the senior women's team made up of new runners Minna Jones-Walters, Holly Hume & Jacqui Brook 18th.
