6th Aug 2011. Charlene Thomas and Martyn Bernard Compete in Aviva London Grand Prix.
Charlene Thomas and Martyn Bernard were both invited to compete in the televised Aviva London Grand Prix meeting at Crystal Palace. They were both chasing their respective 'A' standards to try and ensure selection for the forthcoming World Championships, but unfortunately they were both unsuccessful.
Charlene was extremely unlucky to injure her foot just a few days after her memorable victory in the European Team Championships, and has had a race against time to try and get fit again. Alas she was clearly not back to her best, and struggled from the gun before dropping out of the 1500m. Martyn didn't do quite as well as he had hoped, finishing 8th in the High Jump with 2.25m. He has the 'B' standard with his 2.28m from the Trials, so must now wait to see if the selectors have faith in him.
