Ladies Road & Cross

We are always interested to hear from ladies of all ages and abilities who are interested in joining our club. We have been successful in our ability to support runners who are wanting to make the step up from beginner level and help develop them into knowledgeable, confident and proficient runners. We try to accommodate all levels of athlete and we enter ladies teams in most disciplines including road, trail, cross country and track and field. Our ladies team has been hugely successful over the years, winning team prizes in road races, National, Northern and County road relays and cross country championships. Individually our ladies are also successful with some of our ladies representing England and Great Britain. Details of some of our recent successes can be found below.
As much as we are competitive and celebrate success, we are also a friendly, welcoming and inclusive club. Everyone who joins us finds their place in the group and we motivate and support each other in achieving their individual goals. Our ladies are students, women in business, housewives and mums but when we are at the club we are runners!
If you are interested in joining the Wakefield Ladies team get in touch with our team captain helen.beck@wakefieldharriers.org.uk . There is not obligation to join straight away and we recommend that you give us a try for up to four weeks before becoming a member. We look forward to hearing from you.

Meet some of our ladies…

Jacqui Khoueiry “I ran my first Half Marathon in 1998, having spent two years in a wheelchair and crutches following a bad horse riding accident. At times it's hard to believe how many fabulous races I have been lucky enough to run and great friends I have made over the last 22 years. Never would I of imagined, that I would still be running today! At Wakefield Harriers I have enjoyed being part of some very successful team events and forged friendship with some great friends. Success has come from the strength and commitment from within the club”.

Helen Beck, Ladies Team Captain “I joined the club in 2009 after getting bit by the running bug in my late 20’s. I enjoy taking part in distance races on the road but I am at my happiest when racing on the trail or cross country, the muddier the better! I have many running highlights from over the years but one of my fondest memories is from 2014 when I ran the Ilkley trail race, I remember thinking what an amazing feeling it is to run such a challenging race somewhere so beautiful”

Jenny Buck “I joined the club when I moved to Wakefield after finishing uni in 2009. I initially raced on the road and competing in triathlons but I have more recently started doing more fell races and marathon training. Attending group training helps keep me motivated and pushing myself. It’s also great racing as part of the women’s team in both relay events and road races”.

Julie Briscoe “I started my running career over 30 years ago running in the school cross country team where I progressed to represent South Yorkshire, Yorkshire and North of England. I’ve ran For England on the roads, cross country and mountain and finally once I hit my 40’S I represented Great Britain on two occasions, mountain and road, both being 50km events! I run most distances but I would say I’m more successful over the longer events on the road”.
