Club News and Results HighlightsThese pages were last updated - 31th March 2025A BUSY WEEKEND FOR WAKEFIELD HARRIERS 15.03.25 - 16.03.25 PODIUM 5K FESTIVAL It was a busy weekend of road racing with Wakefield Harriers racing in four different races. First up on Saturday 15th was Podium 5k Festival in Leicester. Abbey Brooke competed in the elite Female A race and finished in a fantastic time of 16:53 finishing 61st in a stacked race! In the elite Male B race Euan Gaskin finished 63rd in a great time of 15:04. In the open race we had Paige & Jessica Watson competing. Paige finished in 18:38 & Jessica in 19:45. Finishing 18th & 71st respectively. UNITED AIRLINES NYC HALF MARATHON Next up our international athlete Amy Eloise Neale competed in the United Airlines NYC half finishing in a time of 68:12 and 5th lady beating her previous club record by 3 minutes!WAKEFIELD 10K & 5K (CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS) On the same day the Wakefield Hospice 10k Road race took place which the club also counts as our 10k club championship (first claim runners only) first, second and third places count. The weather was ideal for some quick times and we had an amazing 29 runners competing out of the 2500 strong field. The race was won by Mark Bostock who is now a second claim athlete in a new course record of 30:35, rather impressive after going sub 14 minutes the night before at podium 5k! Adam Peers claimed the Mens championship for the second successive year with a great time of 32:37, he finished 4th place overall and continues his recent fine form. Jake Worton was the next harrier to finish in 33:36 (6th) Mark Mills was the 3rd Harrier to finish in 36:02 (13th). Angela Hall Claimed the Womens championship with a time of 39:58 (5th) closely followed by Katie Peers 40:22 (6th) and Paige Watson was the third Harrier to finish in 41:04 (10th). Well done to every runner who took part!At the same time the Wakefield Hospice 5k was taking place and there was a stand out performance by Bella Tutt who finished 10th overall and was first lady back in a great time of 19:12. A fantastic effort. RETFORD HALF MARATHON And finally for the road runners we had three athletes competing in the Retford half each one achieving a PB. Robert Brailsford in his debut at this distance finished in an amazing time of 01:10:54 and placed 5th overall out of 677. Scott Eaglen finished in 50th place in a time of 1:20:17. Alison Downey finished 461 in a fantastic time of 1:54:57.ENGLISH SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY Moving from road back to cross country. Wakefield Harriers had three athletes representing their counties at the English Schools Cross Country in Ardingly, West Sussex. Bringing together the top runners from school years 8 to 13 from each of the 46 counties in England. The club’s highest finisher was the in form Thomas Hastings running for West Yorkshire. He finished in 58th position out of 334 starters, a strong run given that he is still a first year athlete. Bella Tutt had a great run for West Yorkshire, in the intermediate girls race coming home in 97th place. Rosie Thistlewood finished a good 192nd for North Yorkshire out of the 328 starters also in the intermediate girls race. What a great weekend of racing from all Wakefield Harriers, well done to everyone who competed!THOMAS HASTINGS CONTINUES TO SHINE AT CAU INTER COUNTIES CHAMPS 08.03.25 Thomas Hastings continued his great cross country form representing Yorkshire at the CAU Inter Counties Championship in Nottingham in which he finished 8th! The race also incorporated the British Athletics Cross Challenge. Thomas finished a fantastic 2nd place overall out of the 5 race series. ADAM PEERS WINS AT LIVERSEDGE HALF 02.03.25
We had 7 athletes competing in this local undulating half marathon with Adam Peers taking first place overall in a great time of 71:46, Paul Gilbert was our next finisher in 87:26, Angela Hall was our first lady and 3rd overall in 90:39, Ian Ogden was our next finisher in 95:04, closely followed by Peter Woodhead in 95:31, Katie Peers was our second lady finisher in 98:03 with Francis Mwaba our final finisher in 1:45:42, a good turn out for the club, well done all. MEDALS AT THE BRITISH INDOOR MASTERS 22.03.25 - 23.03.25 At the recent British Masters Indoor Championships, several athletes delivered outstanding performances, resulting in three bronze medals! Richard Higson-Blythe achieved a season's best in the M50 60m, earning a bronze medal. Steve Thorpe secured bronze in the M50 triple jump in a closely contested competition, with only 2cm separating first and third place. Amanda Potter put in a strong performance to finish third in the W40 200m. Richard also competed in the 200m, finishing fourth, while Amanda came fourth in the 60m final. Steve also made it to the 60m final with a season's best in the heat. Great performances all around! HARRIERS MEN WIN AT SNAKE LANE 10 MILE RACE 23.02.25
Some great running in blustery conditions at Snake Lane saw Wakefield Harriers win the men's team prize. First harrier across the line was Robert Brailsford who ran an excellent 54:59 for 5th place with Ben Butler running 58:26 in 16th place and Simon Midwood 58:54 in 21st place, men's captain Stewart Knowles ran 1:02:32 with Annette Hayward our only female runner in 1:28:50. Three harriers made the long trip down to London to compete at the National Cross-Country Championships at Parliament Hill. Conditions were ideal for XC! Thomas Hastings who has been in fantastic form recently finished in 11th out of 318 runners in the U13 boys race and Sylvie Ellis finished a commendable 141th in a highly competitive U17 ladies field. Representing the senior ladies Abbey Brooke finished 41st our 190 ladies an incredible effort. WAKEFIELD HARRIERS INDOOR MEET 2 – 22.02.25 22.02.25 The second of three indoor meets took place at Thornes Park on Saturday 22nd February. Once again all the young athletes competing put in some fantastic performances cheered on by family and friends. The club would like to congratulate all athletes taking part and thank the volunteers for helping stage such a great event for all involved. Wakefield Harriers had a fantastic day at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield showcasing their exceptional talent and determination. The team came away with an impressive haul of six gold medals, one silver, and one bronze. Their performances across various events throughout the day highlighted their hard work and dedication, making the championships a memorable and successful occasion for the club. On a cold Sunday morning, 33 members of the Wakefield Harriers participated in the Dewsbury 10K. The flat and fast course allowed 10 runners to achieve new personal bests. The first male finisher from the team was Robert Brailsford, who completed the race in 31:49 and secured 8th place overall. Our first female finisher was Katie Peers, with a time of 39:18. Several Wakefield Harriers competed in the West Yorkshire Schools Cross Country semi-finals on Saturday. The top 8 from each race qualify for English Schools in March. In the fantastic setting of Tatton Park, Cheshire. Wakefield Harriers competed at the 2025 Northern Cross Country Championships. The sun was shining, and the conditions were great for some brilliant racing! The highlight of the day was a stunning victory for our U13 runner Thomas Hastings who won the U13 title. He was supported by teammates, Sydney Swan (36th), Henry McFarlane (46th), Harry Tolson (47th), Daniel Jones (50th) & Harry Beck (93rd) an amazing team effort!
Also competing were Sylvie Ellis (51st) & Jess Watson (56th) in the U17 Women, Bella Tutt (14th) in the U15 girls. Paige Watson (22nd) in the Junior Ladies & Abbey Brooke (13th) in the senior ladies.

A strong Harriers tunrout in York saw some excellent times in one of the first road races of the year. Adam Peers was the first harrier home in 23rd position in a great time of 1:10:21 (pb), Stewart Knowles was next in 1:19:33, Thomas Sellers came in at 1:21:34 (pb) followed by Rob Jackson 1:26:58 (pb), Nicky Steel was the first female harrier back in 1:34:00, Peter Woodhead was next in 1:33:47 (pb), Liam O Flaherty was next home in 1:37:26, Craig Orr followed in 1:39:50, Laura Sellers was the second female harrier in 1:50:04 (pb) and Francis Mwaba was the final Harrier home in 1:50:56. (All times are chip times) 18th January 2025 WAKEFIELD HARRIERS INDOOR MEET 1 Wakefield Harriers hosted the first in a series of 3 indoor athletics meets at Thornes Park on Saturday 18th January. A fantastic day was had by all involved with some amazing performances on show. Congratulations to all athletes taking part and the volunteers for help stage such a great event for all involved. We look forward to seeing you at the next event. 11th-12th January 2025 NORTHERN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS Well done to the athletes who competed at Sheffield at the Northern Under 17, Under 20 and Senior Indoor Championships.
We had some great performances with 1 gold medal and 3 silver medals Joshua Akintolu took home the Gold in the high jump with a Jump of 1.88 metres in his first year as an Under 17 and taking a Silver and a PB in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.36 metres. Amazing achievement for a first year Under 17!
Daniel Akintolu took home a Silver Medal in the High Jump with a jump of 1.75 metres in his first year as an Under 20 and a Silver Medal in the Long Jump with a personal best and a jump exceeding 6m for the first time with 6.59 metres. What an amazing achievement!
Ben Smith started the indoor season in a new age category the Under 23 with some great performances. 7.43 seconds in the 60 metres, his third fastest run at 60m just 0.05 off a personal best and 24.21 seconds in the 200m finishing 4th in his heat with his 3rd fastest indoor run for the 200m.
Amanda Potter started her indoor season off with a great start with 8.44 seconds in the 60m and 27.95 seconds in the 200m
Ella Bickerdyke started her indoor season with 4th in her heat with 27.11 seconds in the 200m and 6th in her heat for the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.32 seconds her third fastest time in the event.
Amy Gleghorn started her indoor season off great with 9.87 seconds in the 60m hurdles just 0.08 seconds off her PB and 4.59 metres in the Long Jump finishing in 5th place just 7cm off a PB.
12th January 2025 AMY-ELOISE NEALE-31:15 IN VALENCIA ![]() Amy-Eloise Neale raced against a world class field at the Valenica 10K road race on Sunday 12th January 2025. She finished 14th in the women's race in 31:15 a new personal best and moved her up to 7th on the UK 10km all time list. 4th January 2025 YORKSHIRE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024 ![]() Another year and another fantastic event held at Lightwater Valley. Runners represented Wakefield Harriers throughout the day across multiple age ranges. A massive congratulations to our U13 boys who were the first team home.
JUNIORS The U13 boys were led home by Thomas Hastings, who sat in with the main contenders for the first half of the race, before making a decisive break at the bottom of the course, he pulled out a 15 second lead on the hilly return to the finish line, to become the 2025 Yorkshire Champion. He was backed up with strong runs from Sydney Swan (10th) and Harry Tolson (19th). The club were well represented in this age group with Daniel Jones (20th), Tommy Rudd (35th), Oliver Hastings (40th) & Lochlan Ruddock (41st).
The U17 Ladies finished 6th team, with Rosie Thistlewood (12th), Sylvie Ellis (16th) and Jessica Watson (33rd).
SENIORS The men s and ladies teams also put in a great effort and had fantastic races. For the Senior Women we had 3 runners competing; Abbey Brooke was the first Harrier (12th), followed by Libby Greatorex (24th) and Angie Dales (54th).
For the Senior men we had 6 runners competing. Robert Brailsford was the first Harrier back (30th), followed by Stewart Knowles (80th), Thomas Sellers (83rd), Darren Hewitt (95th), Paul Gilbert (111th) and Philip Ambler (117th).
