Club News and Results HighlightsThese pages last updated - 18th January 2025 18th January 2025 WAKEFIELD HARRIERS INDOOR MEET 1 Wakefield Harriers hosted the first in a series of 3 indoor athletics meets at Thornes Park on Saturday 18th January. A fantastic day was had by all involved with some amazing performances on show. Congratulations to all athletes taking part and the volunteers for help stage such a great event for all involved. We look forward to seeing you at the next event. 11th-12th January 2025 NORTHERN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS Well done to the athletes who competed at Sheffield at the Northern Under 17, Under 20 and Senior Indoor Championships.
We had some great performances with 1 gold medal and 3 silver medals Joshua Akintolu took home the Gold in the high jump with a Jump of 1.88 metres in his first year as an Under 17 and taking a Silver and a PB in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.36 metres. Amazing achievement for a first year Under 17!
Daniel Akintolu took home a Silver Medal in the High Jump with a jump of 1.75 metres in his first year as an Under 20 and a Silver Medal in the Long Jump with a personal best and a jump exceeding 6m for the first time with 6.59 metres. What an amazing achievement!
Ben Smith started the indoor season in a new age category the Under 23 with some great performances. 7.43 seconds in the 60 metres, his third fastest run at 60m just 0.05 off a personal best and 24.21 seconds in the 200m finishing 4th in his heat with his 3rd fastest indoor run for the 200m.
Amanda Potter started her indoor season off with a great start with 8.44 seconds in the 60m and 27.95 seconds in the 200m
Ella Bickerdyke started her indoor season with 4th in her heat with 27.11 seconds in the 200m and 6th in her heat for the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.32 seconds her third fastest time in the event.
Amy Gleghorn started her indoor season off great with 9.87 seconds in the 60m hurdles just 0.08 seconds off her PB and 4.59 metres in the Long Jump finishing in 5th place just 7cm off a PB.
12th January 2025 AMY-ELOISE NEALE-31:15 IN VALENCIA ![]() Amy-Eloise Neale raced against a world class field at the Valenica 10K road race on Sunday 12th January 2025. She finished 14th in the women's race in 31:15 a new personal best and moved her up to 7th on the UK 10km all time list. 4th January 2025 YORKSHIRE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024 ![]() Another year and another fantastic event held at Lightwater Valley. Runners represented Wakefield Harriers throughout the day across multiple age ranges. A massive congratulations to our U13 boys who were the first team home.
JUNIORS The U13 boys were led home by Thomas Hastings, who sat in with the main contenders for the first half of the race, before making a decisive break at the bottom of the course, he pulled out a 15 second lead on the hilly return to the finish line, to become the 2025 Yorkshire Champion. He was backed up with strong runs from Sydney Swan (10th) and Harry Tolson (19th). The club were well represented in this age group with Daniel Jones (20th), Tommy Rudd (35th), Oliver Hastings (40th) & Lochlan Ruddock (41st).
The U17 Ladies finished 6th team, with Rosie Thistlewood (12th), Sylvie Ellis (16th) and Jessica Watson (33rd).
SENIORS The men’s and ladies’ teams also put in a great effort and had fantastic races. For the Senior Women we had 3 runners competing; Abbey Brooke was the first Harrier (12th), followed by Libby Greatorex (24th) and Angie Dales (54th).
For the Senior men we had 6 runners competing. Robert Brailsford was the first Harrier back (30th), followed by Stewart Knowles (80th), Thomas Sellers (83rd), Darren Hewitt (95th), Paul Gilbert (111th) and Philip Ambler (117th).

CHRISTMAS HANDICAP 2024. ![]() Firstly thank you to all volunteers and organisers how helps make this event happen every year, it was such a great event, well done! This year we had 30 runners take part with 8 guests joining in the fun. First to finish this year was Ian Shipley with a fantastic effort followed by Adam Heppenstall and Phil Ellis, First lady to finish was Ange Hall Followed by Libby Greatorex and Ang E Knowles. The fastest time on the night was run by Ben Butler 24:05 closely followed by Adam Peers 24:11 and Stewart Knowles 26:43. Our fastest lady was Suzanne Brooke in 27:33 followed by Rosie Thistlewood 27:45 and Paige Watson 29:17. Most importantly closest to their Handicap time! Libby Greatorex was just 8 seconds and Adam Peers 11 Seconds. The London Marathon place was won by Francis Mwaba with Rachel Rowe and Scott Eaglen reserves.

West Yorkshire Cross Country League Meeting 2 at Thornes Park. ![]() Wakefield Harriers hosted the second meeting of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League on a lovely sunny day at Thornes Park, There was a good turnout of runners from the club, especially from the Senior Men, who had 18 competing. The 'A' team of Elliot Smales 5th, Robert Brailsford 13th, Adam Peers 20th, Simon Midwood 23rd, Steve Lowe 36th and team captain Stewart Knowles 40th finished a clear 2nd team, behind a strong Leeds City team. The club also had a good 'B' team of Thomas Sellers 47th, Ashley Crow 50th, Jacob Shillam 54th, Darren Hewitt 61st, Craig Davidson 63rd & Ross Penny 72nd. The Senior Ladies team also finished 2nd, and they were once again led home by Libby Greatorex in 11th, Paige Watson 18th, Chloe Fitton 23rd and team captain Angela Dales 33rd. Our only individual winner was Thomas Hastings, who won the U13 Boy's race for the second time, and with Sydney Swan 6th and Daniel Jones 10th they won the team race again, by a single point from Bingley. We had another great turnout of 10 runners from the club in this race with Harry Tolson finishing 13th, Tommy Rudd 19th, Harry Beck 23rd, Lochlan Ruddock 26th, Oliver Hastings 30th, William Backhouse 35th & Ewan Lowe 36th. The club also had a team victory in the U17 Ladies race, with the team of Rosie Thistlewood 3rd, Sylvie Ellis 9th & Jessica Watson 10th beating City of York by 3 points. The only other age group where we had a complete team was in the U11 Girls race, where Matilda Shaw 5th, Phoebe Sayles 22nd & Frankie Clark 34th finished 3rd team. Also running well individually and finishing in the top 10 was Isabella Tutt, who had a good run to finish 5th in the U15 Girls race. The New Track at Thornes Park Stadium is now Open. ![]() After a long wait, the new track at Thornes Park Stadium is now open. Northern Athletics Cross Country Relays at Sheffield. ![]() Wakefield Harriers had several teams competing in the Northern Athletics Cross Country Relay Championships at Graves Park, Sheffield. The U13 & U11 Girls teams are pictured above. In the Senior Men's event the club had two teams. The 'A' team of Robert Brailsford, Ashley Crow, Darren Hewitt & Stewart Knowles finished 21st, and the 'B' team of Thomas Sellers, Thomas Sharp, Philip Ambler & Craig Davidson were 30th. In the Senior Women's race Paige Watson, Chloe Fitton & Angela Dales were 19th. The U17 Women's team had the club's highest placing, as the trio of Rosie Thistlewood, Jessica Watson & Sylvie Ellis finished 8th. In the U13 Boys age group we had two teams, with the 'A' team of Sydney Swan, Daniel Jones & Tommy Rudd finishing 15th, and the 'B' team of Ethan Ford, Harry Beck & Lochlan Ruddock 20th. The U13 Girls team of Eirian Clark, Rebecca Alton & Isabelle Thomas were 29th. It was good to see some Junior Jets competing in this event. The U11 Boys team of Freddie Falkingham, Sedric Swan & Isaac Ford finished 19th, and the U11 Girls team of Matilda Shaw, Freya Till & Frankie Clark were 15th. Results Link. 13th Oct 2024. Julie Briscoe Wins World Masters Marathon Title. ![]() Julie Briscoe had one of the biggest successes of her long and distinguished career by winning the World Masters Marathon Title, at Bucharest, in Romania. She was a clear winner of the F45 title, and indeed she beat all the F40 runners as well, as she finished 2nd lady in the brilliant time of 2 hrs 49 mins 36 secs. Her time easily beat the existing F45 club marathon record, so she now holds every club road running record in both the F40 and F45 age categories. Results Link (in Greek!). 13th Oct 2024. West Yorkshire Cross Country League Meeting 1 at Nunroyd Park. ![]() The Harriers were well represented at the first meeting of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League, which took place at Nunroyd Park, Guiseley. We had one individual winner in Thomas Hastings, who was a clear winner in the U13 Boy's race, and with Sydney Swan 6th and Daniel Jones 7th they easily won the team race. There was a great turnout of 10 runners from the club in this race, pictured above, with Harry Tolson finishing 10th, Tommy Rudd 14th, Oliver Hastings 23rd, Harry Beck 25th, Lochlan Ruddock 32nd, William Backhouse 35th & Ewan Lowe 36th. The club also had a good number of runners in the Senior Men's race, and they had a strong showing, finishing 3rd team. Second claim member Elliot Smales had a great run to finish 3rd, and he was well supported by Robert Brailsford 13th, Adam Peers 19th, Steve Lowe 31st, Stewart Knowles 42nd and Jonathan O'Hara 43rd, in his first race for the club. Also running well in this race were Thomas Sellers 52nd, Darren Hewitt 66th, Paul Gilbert 86th, Philip Ambler 89th, U20 Zachary Rayner 105th, Peter Woodhead 114th & Francis Mwaba 116th. The Senior Ladies team were also 3rd team, led home by Libby Greatorex in a fine 8th position. She was followed by U20 Paige Watson in 23rd, Chloe Fitton 30th & Angela Dales 41st. In the U17 Ladies race the team of Rosie Thistlewood 7th, Sylvie Ellis 16th & Jessica Watson 17th did well to finish 4th team, and Madison Snell also ran well to finish 27th. In the U11 Girl's race Matilda Shaw finished in an excellent 5th place, and with Freya Till 14th & Frankie Clark 44th the team finished 4th. Running with distinction for the club in incomplete teams were Isabella Tutt (10th U15G), Robert Hallas (17th U15B), Joe Martin (21st U17M), Eirian Clark (26th U13G), Erin Wallace (29th U13G), Jack Sanderson (12th U11B) and Ned Jackson (22nd U11B).
