2020 Club News October - December

20th Dec 2020. Steve Lowe Wins 'Virtual' Christmas Handicap Race
It was not possible to hold the annual Christmas Handicap Race in its usual form, because of the Covid-19 restrictions. However, the team managers successfully put together a 'virtual' version of the event, with runners asked to run their own 4 mile time trial and submit their performances.
Former Yorkshire 800m Champion Steve Lowe, now in the M40 category, has made a welcome return to the club, and was the declared the winner after the predetermined handicap times had been applied. Not far behind though was M60 Steve Wilkinson and M40 Liam O'Flaherty.
Mark Bostock was easily the fastest, with a scintillating time of 19:38 for his 4 mile run, with Helen Beck the fastest lady with 25:03.

6th Nov 2020. Ivan Spawforth Passes Away
It is with great sadness that we hear that Ivan Spawforth has passed away suddenly.
Ivan first came to the club as the father of a young Darren Spawforth, who went on to become one of the club's greatest ever runners, and then got involved with helping to coach the club's young middle and long distance runners. Ivan went on to give many years of service to the club as an excellent coach, and gave many of today's club runners a great grounding in distance running. Ivan was also a sporting star in his own right, playing on the wing for the Wakefield Trinity first team in 1967.
The club sends condolences to Ivan's family at this sad time.

14th Oct 2020. Club Committee Changes at the AGM
