1st Mar 2020. Trafford 10k Road Race
Three Wakefield Harriers made the trip over the Pennines to take part in the high quality Trafford 10k race this weekend. Heavy rain and strong winds had put the race at risk in the week building up to the race. Thankfully though, conditions eased slightly on the day but the road was still flooded in places and a strong breeze made it very difficult for all those taking part. International standard runners littered both the mens and ladies fields, the highlight being Olympian Eilish McColgan. Despite the tough conditions our runners all performed well. Ben Butler finished in 32.24, Danny Franks in 33.22 despite suffering with a heavy cold and Benjamin Khan was just outside his PB on 33.54 Results

2nd Feb 2020. Dewsbury 10k Road Race
A massive turnout at the Dewsbury 10k for the Wakefield Harriers saw 24 of our athletes take on the notoriously fast out and back course from Dewsbury to Batley. The high winds that battered the area on Saturday had thankfully subsided and conditions looked set for some potentially quick performances, especially as a high number of Harriers are currently training hard in preparation for spring marathons. As the gun went at 9am prompt the runners started fast with the first 5k climbing progressively up Batley road before the turn with a fast final 5k downhill to the finish. The depth of quality at the front of the field soon became apparent as a high pace was set and the field soon strung out behind the leaders. Never the less the Harriers dug in and put in a string of personal best performances. Julie Briscoe was 2nd female over the line, 71st overall, in a fantastic 35.01, followed by Nicky Steel in 38.43 and the ladies captain, Helen Beck, in 38.54. For the mens team Ben Butler was our first finisher in a solid 9th place overall in 32.08, Simon Midwood was next home in 33.27, closely followed by Benjamin Khan in 33.33.
