The leaders in all categories had such a lead that they could not be caught so the shape at the top of the final table was pre-determined. An engraved tankard was presented to Richard West, men's champion and a set of crystal wine glasses to Dot Hand (Ladies' champion) with Stuart Anderson (Vet's champion) receiving an engraved whisky glass (of which we, hear, he has already made good use). Many thanks, by the way, to everyone, for the wine and the flowers for Sue - a lovely touch. The wine was smashing and it's really good to feel appreciated for the efforts - thanks guys.
Special thanks to Sue, also, for her support and imaginative prize buying over the year.
It is worth noting that 44 athletes took part in at least one of our events over the last year. A fine record but one which can be improved (I remember a time when more than that turned out at just one of Richard Hancock's Haw Park events!). There are lots of road and cross country runners in the club who, it seems, prefer to do their regular, insular thing on every Thursday night - "What, change my routine, do something different? Not me." I don't know how we get the message across that these events are fun, generally well organised, with good "crack" and a pint afterwards, etc. Still, you can't please all of the people….
Enough moaning, there was a good night in the pub after the last event, with a buffet paid for by the kitty, and a jolly good time was had by all. The landlord certainly makes us very welcome (hot showers last event).
Thanks to absolutely everyone who has helped (such as organising a course occasionally) and, of course, to all who have participated in the events over the year.
