Wakefield Harriers' John Hampshire finished second in the 060 category of the Whitby Long Distance Triathlon last Sunday.
Over a very demanding North Yorkshire Championship course, Hampshire performed solidly in a field of 120 top triathletes.
The race involved a one-mile swim in the River Esk which Hampshire completed in 32 mins. He followed up with a 40-mile cycle ride over the North Yorkshire Moors, climbing up Blue Bank and the Devil's Elbow. This section he completed in 2 hrs 20 mins.
Finally, Hampshire completed a 9-mile run - once again up Blue Bank in 66 mins.
His total time for the 50 miles was 3 hrs 58 mins.
