Sheffield AC Indoor Open Meeting

In the middle of the cross-country and road races, indoor athletics at the Don Valley Stadium attracted a large contingent from Wakefield Harriers.

Samantha Lambert posted a good time, winning the U 11s 60m sprint in 9.32 secs.

U13 boys' 60m hurdler John Paul Dales finished second in a time of 13.23 secs. Dales also competed in the 60m flat, finishing sixth in 10.55 secs.

In the U15 girls' section, Katie Smith headed a good entry with second in the flat sprint. In the same race, Laura Robinson was third. Smith recorded a time of 8.33 secs and Robinson 8.35 secs.

The 60m U15 girls' race had two Wakefield entrants, Ruth Jones and Joanne Smith. Both girls unfortunately had falls in the event but gathered themselves to finish the race.

Ruth Laybourn had a busy day with two hurdle races and one sprint. The first, the 60m hurdles produced a fourth-place finish in 9.97 secs. In the second she finished sixth in 10.39 secs. And in the 60m sprint Laybourn posts a time of 8.29 secs.

Emily Mason, from the same age group as Laybourn, competed in the U17 women's hurdling events. She failed to make the first hurdle in the first round but in the second series Mason finished a notable second in 9.53 secs. Mason also recorded an 8.53 secs finishing time for sixth place in the 60m sprint.

Victoria Lockwood, U17 women, was fifth in 8.37 secs.

Ruth Dales, senior women, was second in the 60m hurdles in 9.16 secs. She also took third in the 60m sprint in 8.27 secs.

Alan Ruddock had a good run in the U17 men's event to place fourth in 7.53 secs, and in the U15 boys John Fletcher recorded 8.04 secs for third in his race.
