WAKEFIELD Harriers young female athletes put in some splendid performances when they represented Yorkshire at the 1999 Reebok Inter Counties Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham.

In the U13s girls race won by Bedfordshire's Katrina Woolen in 11 mins 24 secs, Wakefield's Carly Wright finished fourth and Yorkshire's final team counter in 33rd place overall, clocking 12mins 30s to ensure the county took silver. The highest Wakefield finish of the day was provided by much-improved performer Aine Hoban in the U15 girls section of the championships won by Cornwall's Zoe Jelbert in 15 mins 47 secs. Hoban finished 18th overall in 16 mins 39 sees and was third Yorkshire team counter just behind Elizabeth Spencer (16th in 16 mins 34 secs) and Grace Bendle, (17th in 16 mins 37 secs).

Teresa McNaney's 55th place overall in 17 mins 19 secs gave the county third place overall behind Kent and Essex and ensured Wakefield's Hoban the biggest success of her career so far.

In the U 17 women's section of the championships which was won by Dorset's Louise Damen in 18 mins 55 secs, Wakefield duo Laura Sheard and Becky Fender finished fourth and sixth Yorkshire counters respectively. Sheard came home 80th of the 250 plus starters in 21 mins 41 ecs and Fender claiming 133rd overall in 22 mins 35 secs.
