Peterborough Open Meeting

Report by: Martin Cunnane

August 1999

Wakefield Harriers' U15 AAA javelin champion Mark Lindsay was in headline making form again at the Peterborough Open Track and Field meeting where he launched a massive career best 58.27m throw to win the U15 boys javelin competition by a wide margin.

Lindsay's winning effort extended his lead at the top of the UK rankings with the new specification javelin and once again advertised his obvious throwing talent.

Not content to rest on his laurels, the Horbury based youngster took on the next age group in the U17 men's javelin competition where he duly completed a notable double landing the spoils with another personal best mark with the 100g heavier implement of 51.95m. Lindsay also threw in the senior men's competition recording a best throw with the 800g javelin of 45.95m.

Lindsay who only took up the sport seriously this summer has surprised everyone with his rapid improvement and with the benefit of a winter training programme under the watchful eye of Wakefield's senior throws coach, Mike Swain, he looks certain to develop into a top class performer.
