Our last event of the 1998/99 "season" took place on Thursday, 27th May on a circular route of just about 4 miles from Stanley Ferry.
The race itself promised to be very interesting with in-form Craig Heppenstall back from university and ready to challenge Andy Johnson. In the event, Craig probably went off too fast and it was the experienced Andy who gradually hauled him back to take first place by over 30 seconds.
There was a reasonable turn-out with a number of regulars unable to take part through work commitments. The evening was rounded off with the presentation for the over-all first man and lady (based on points awarded for non-handicap places). Andy Johnson and Dot Hand were clear winners and took the prizes of an engraved glass pint tankard and crystal wine glasses respectively. Everyone who participated in the events over the year were, though, also winners. Together, proving there is sufficient interest to justify the event and that there is more to Wakefield Harriers than track and field.
