Midweek Distance Running League First Meeting - Pugneys 5k
Results & Report by: Ron Needham
24th June 1999 - Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield
The first event of the 1999/2000 season took place 24th June. We decided to run the distance league event as part of the Pugney's 5k race which we organise along with Second Chance, the head injuries unit based at Pinderfields.
It proved to be a very successful evening, with over 120 participants in total in the open event and a large number of Harriers helping to make up that total.
As it was an open event, we didn't charge an entry fee for the Distance League part of it and didn't give handicap prizes. The over-all winner was Andy Johnson and there were several Harriers amongst the prize winners in the various categories.
Interestingly, the open event attracted a number of Harrier entries who would not normally turn out for the Distance League. The message needs to be got over to them - if you enjoyed the Pugneys event, then you will enjoy our regular last Thursday in the month events. Why not join in on a regular basis?
Please all our regulars - keep trying to get as many members involved as possible.
