Ideal conditions and a dry undulating course were the perfect recipe for some of the country's top runners to come up with the goods.

Best for Wakefield was Aine Hoban in the U17 women's 5000m event. She got her best start of the season in a class field of 250 runners. Racing with the leading 60 athletes, Hoban eventually finished 40th in 19 mins 57 secs - a great, gutsy performance.

Two Wakefield athletes contested the 4000m U15 girls' event, Zoe Gowland and Samantha Colley. Gowland was almost 50 metres up on Colley at the 2000m mark among the leading 50 runners.

Colley's stamina drew her through the field but Gowland found her second wind to eventually finish 67th with Colley a creditable 147th.
