AAA U20 Indoor Championships

A small group of Wakefield Harriers participated in the CGU Under 20 AAA Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Although no Harrier returned with a medal, a few achieved personal bests in what was a top quality competition.
Katie Smith, Laura Robinson and Olivia Smith all performed excellently in the U15 girls competition, with Olivia clocking 8.52 secs in her heat - which included eventual winner Amy Spencer of Wigan Harriers.
Laura was fourth in her heat in 8.25 secs, with Katie third in her heat clocking 8.36 secs, with both making the semi-finals. Both finished in seventh place in their semis, recording times not quite as fast as the heats.
In the 200m, Laura reached the semi-finals after winning her heat in 26.53 secs. In the semis, she trailed winner Jemma Thake in 26.89 secs to reach the finals which saw her hampered by a bad line draw as she finished in fifth, albeit in a record 27.29 secs.
Olivia and Katie finished second and third respecitvely in their 200m heat, clocking times of 27.81 secs and 27.85 secs as they narrowly missed the finals.
