North of England League Division 2 Promotion Match
Cleckheaton 16th August 2009
Mens Team Report

Well here we are, the Promotion Match, and to our bare bones due to holidays and injuries. (Out are Craig Simpson, Marcus Nixey, Martyn Bernard, Nathan Elliott, Tom Coney, Lewis Tatt, Nathaniel Davis, Ben Mitchell, Richard West, Steve Wilkinson and Chris Price – Plus long term casualty Josh Green). My day started at 6.30am as I was up at my home in Doncaster to travel to Manchester and get Ricardo, one of our main sprinters, due to him being unable to get across otherwise. We managed to fill every event with eligible athletes, so a big thank you for the athletes that were prepared to come out of their comfort zone and cover events for the team. A few not even 100% fit, but were willing to die for the cause (Callum, James Mitchell, Ricardo, TC). Results are on the web page, so I will go into performances and what it means :-

100m – RF and JM ran very well not fit and scored valuable points, will be interesting when these lads are fully fit to see what we have in depth
200m – Same Lads again with better scoring performance as a unit and a seasons best for Ricardo
400m – Superman Alistair or Mini Daz covered many events again as he has done all season and ran well (400m was his 3rd event), TC was tired after his 800 and again down after not really training for a few weeks but still ran good
800m -TC ran the fastest 800 at a northern Match this season and as mentioned not at 100% so well done pal and this was backed up by Gavin ha! er no Gareth Hepworth running a very good competitive 800 were he was in the mix till the last 60 metres well done G
1500m – Big Jack ran well, a 4 dead time and a cool last 120 metres to stroll to the front and win with consummate ease, not so big yet Sam Bucknall again showed his good form this season with a 4.09 which he was gutted with, so it shows how far he has come this season and he finished a fine 2nd so good points lads
5000m/3000 chase – With some athletes letting us down we had to mix and match the 5k and 3ksc, Steve Faulkener covered the chase and would have done the 5k but cramp in his calves was causing him problems, Callum just finished his guest 100 and got to the start line to run with Steve. Callum got to halfway round only to injure himself on the water jump and alas was unable to finish. In came Gareth Hepworth to run with our new track star Chris Ward in the 5k and both ran well and scored the team valuable points
110H- YEAH Myself and Alistair covered the event and I managed to keep on my feet and hands firmly at my side for the full distance. We even beat some teams so they must have been really bad, well done Ali I owe you for the 110s this season pal
400H – Another fine run from Alistair under 60 again and a fine performance and PB from under 17 Matty Crawshaw with 64.9 not bad for the lad with the best six pack in the group (i thinks its Carlsberg but not too sure..Smirnoff for Gaz)
Discus/Shot – Myself and Cheidu did ok, both alright performances but way off our seasons Best – I think Cheidu was more under pressure as young Craig Westeman was at the side smug with his better performances this season (Also he out lifts Cheidu in the Gym Mick’s told me)
Javelin – Mark Lindsay turned out and threw well to say he hasn’t competed since the first match or trained, so it was well appreciated pal, and I threw abysmal but heyho its points for the club cut me I bleed green sort of thing (Doctors have no idea what it is ?)
Pole Vault – Myself and Young I will av a go Matty (Correct name on the official team sheet) managed to score 2 Ύ points each as the event was cancelled due to another athlete injuring himself (looking at the competition this was a blessing in disguise for us)
Hammer – Great to have Swainy back throwing well over 50 and Richard Gayle although with tonsillitis and other weird illnesses still turned out and won the B well done to both of you and so may it carry on
High Jump – Our fine talented under 17’s Will Mulroy and Tom Leyshone both jumped 1.85 and have been a great addition to the team this year. Well done lads, and I look forward to seeing these two for many years to come
Triple/Long Jump – Andrei was back for us and jumped well in both events backed up by Alistair in the Long and Will in the triple, well done lads
4x100 - A GREAT Second here from our guys with the last 3 relay runs being quality, we are getting a good relationship between the athletes and change overs are a lot better
4x400 – Well 3rd on paper but some amazing runs, Alistair and Sam ran good positive legs then a tired TC pulled out a 49.9 split only to be surpassed by Big Jack with a storming 48.7 relay split. Absolutely stunning, and the fastest split for a long time since I have been at Wakefield. (Also the fastest this season beating Martyn Bernards run the week before – So according to how Marcus works things out that makes Jack the Olympic high Jump Champ)

Seriously well done lads, a great team performance, everyone keeping their heads up, focused and not letting their team mates down. Finished off with me taking Ricardo back to Manchester for an eventual time home of 9.00pm zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Remember Cup final at Trafford 12th September 1 per event, i will be in touch with events and a personal timetable for you to get there when required
