Five Mile & 5k Charity Fun Run

Report by: Bryan Murray

18th March 2001 - South Leeds Stadium

Wakefield Harriers' senior athletes have been searching around for competitions as the foot and mouth crisis has hindered their schedule.

Four athletes therefore turned out at the South Leeds Stadium for the five-mile and 5k charity fun run.

Stuart Stokes won the event in 15 mins 56 secs. The Sale Harriers star pulled Wakefield's 17 year-old Steve Faulkner through with him for a fourth-place finish in 17 mins 59 secs. Faulkner was the youngest of the top-five finishers

Rob Whitworth finished seventh in 18 mins 22 secs. The first female Wakefield athlete home was Alice Butler in 19 mins 42 secs.

Jan Faulkner, 14, clocked 26 mins 25 secs to finish in 58th place out of the 106 senior athletes who contested the difficult course.

Lynda Hurst finished in 55 mins 22 secs to claim second in the female vets' 55-age group race.
