NoEAA Indoor Pentathlon Championships

Three Harriers stars figured prominently in the at the North of England Indoor Women's Pentathlon Championships at the Gateshead International Stadium.

Ruth Laybourn, Nadia Bromley and Laura Teasdale competed in the five-event, one-day tournament.

Both Laybourn and Bromley, who have good pedigrees in the multi-events, clinched titles at U17 and U15 levels respectively.

Laybourn totted up 3,267 points which left her a good way ahead of runner up P Boyd (Mandale Harriers) on 3,148. Third-placed E Morris from South Shields collected 3,115.

Laybourn's gold-winning statistics were: 50m, 7.0 secs; long jump, 4.92m; shot putt, 8.05m; high jump, 1.51m; 50m hurdles. 8.2 secs.

Bromley is also becoming a dab hand at the multi-events, and beat off 23 other athletes for her gold medal.

She totalled 3391 points over 300 ahead of second-placed Liverpool Harriers athlete S Devoy. Kendal's C Huck was well down in third on 2923.

Bromley's gold-winning statistics were: 50m, 7.2 secs; long jump, 5.29m; shot putt, 10.15m: high jump, 1.54m; 50m hurdles, 8.5 sees.

Teasdale meanwhile did extremely well in her first-ever U15 multievents competition.

She is still only 12 and was the youngest competitor in the age group. She finished 20th with 1966 points. Her statistics were: 50m, 8.1 secs; long jump, 4.22m; shot putt, 6.97m; high jump, 1.30m; 50m hurdles 10.3 secs.
