Yorkshire Veterans AA League 2000 - 2001
Veteran Harriers win league title yet again!

Report by: Steve Wilkinson

26th January 2001

Our Veterans team won the Yorkshire League title yet again, after a tough yearlong competition from other teams. Congratulations also to team members who picked up individual honours, especially Dave Brailsford who gained 3rd place overall for the entire league of over 300 competitors, for the second year running!!! Derek Price gained 3rd in the over 45’s for the second year running, with Steve Butler 2nd in that age category.

The league is made up of ten race fixtures from around the county. This year it was a close run competition with Bingley making a late run for the title, with Wakefield only just making it with 3239 points against 3091. This figure is made up of the first 4 men in a team scoring with their race position deducted from 100. The final race was at Esholt the home of Bingley Harriers and the final race results were: -

Steve Butler 11th, Clive Grace 15th, Dave Brailsford 18th, Steve Wilkinson 20th, Peter Young 21st, Mick Logan 23rd, Derek Price 25th, Alan Stainer 73rd

The Final Individual League positions in age category were: -

Over 40’s
Dave Brailsford 3rd, Clive Grace 7th, Richard West 8th, Steve Wilkinson 9th, Mick Logan 13th

Over 45’s
Steve Butler 2nd, Derek Price 3rd

Over 50’s
Alan Stainer 4th, G Whitworth 5th

This has been a tremendous year for Wakefield Veterans in their category, after coming second in the Leeds country way relay in September and winning the Aerron relay in November. Special thanks to Adam Cooper and Tony Audsley for their essential contribution to the teams results but who were unable to attend all the races. The women’s veterans’ team has not been as active as last year due to injury and other commitments but. Lets hope the Vet’s team continues their success in 2001.
