Midweek Distance Running League Eighth Meeting - Unicorn Amble Results & Report by: Ron Needham

25th January 2001 - Unicorn Amble
With only four more events to go, the competition for championship trophies was opened up somewhat as injuries and illnesses took their toll of the league leaders. A superb run by Rob Whitworth gave him 10 valuable points in the chase to overcome the unavailable Craig Heppenstall. Rob stormed round the undulating course of just over three miles n 17 minutes 17 seconds. In the Vets league, non-appearance of leader Adam Cooper also allowed defending champion Stuart Anderson to take the lead.
In the ladies event, newcomer to the league Maree Anderson produced a fine run. Maree, who has been a member of the club since she was a little lass never looked back after taking the lead in the ladies section not long after the start. Maree is now, of course, PC Maree - and we wouldn't recommend any would-be escaper to attempt to outrun this particular long arm of the law. We hope she will spend many more Thursday evenings enjoying her running and the company (police duties permitting).
Men's handicap winner was Graham Whitworth who was a worthy event winner in a handicap reduced time of 16-08.
