Three to go and there is no outright winner as yet in any of the leagues. In fact last Thursday’s event only served to make things tighter in the men veterans’ league, with Stuart Anderson and Richard West now tying on 36 points each and with Adam Cooper and Mike Logan both within easy striking distance. Clearly, a single slip by any of the top group could make a great deal of difference. The senior mens and ladies are not quite as close, in fact Dot Hand would have to miss all of the last three events to be caught, but Craig Heppenstall can’t afford to be absent from more than one of them.
Nine hardy souls braved the cold for a run around Stanley, not a bad turn out considering that Val and Stuart Anderson were on holiday, Maree was on police duty and Dave Needham had yet another cold. Where, though, were Adam, Clive, Mark Domaille, Dave Brailsford and Tony White one wonders?
Craig Heppenstall certainly didn’t have it all his own way over the 2.85 miles course, with an in form Steve Tibbs giving him a bit of a fright before pulling away on the last hill. In the handicap event, a good run by Dave Brooke gave him his first win but all were fairly close.
