British Athletics League CupReport & Results by: Mike Hewitt - Senior Men's Team Manager
19th May 2001 - Stafford
Wakefield's Senior Men's Team travelled to Stafford to compete in the BAL Cup with a weakened team due to withdrawals due to injury, with several members taking on unfamiliar events just for the points - true Wakefield spirit! Having been drawn in the toughest match they got stuck into the competition, but in the end it was just a bridge too far!
A big well done to all the team for the way they competed, I was proud of them!
Congratulations to James Davies who equalled the club Under 20 400m record (set in the 80s by Alan Bell who went on to compete in the Los Angeles Olympics!).
Matthew Gillard had a busy day, but like all decathletes came through with a smile on his face. Apart from a mix up in the Pole Vault which saw Matthew no heighted due to the judge not informing him of the first opening height, so as he rushed between events when he got back the bar was already at 2.80m which he failed.
