Wakefield Harriers recently travelled to Cleckheaton for a Complete Runner West Yorkshire Track and Field League 2000 event. The men's 100m sprint was a close contest, with three Wakefield athletes bagging top points.

Matt Young was 1st in 11.8 secs closely followed by Jonathan Shearn - who was returning from injury - in 11.9. In equal 3rd was Steve Thorpe (12.0).

In the U15 boys 200m, John Fletcher had a terrific run over the distance, with both Rowley (Skipton AC) and Fletcher recording the same time of 25.3 secs, but the Harrier was declared the winner.

Two Wakefield athletes scored points in the U11 boys shot putt, with Michael Knighton finishing 6th with a mark of 4.53m and Chris Brennan ending up 7th following a throw of 3.95m.

Nicole Crosby, in the midst of a super season, secured points in the women's 200m, winning comfortably in 25.1 secs from Kate Metcalfe (Halifax Harriers). Fellow Wakefield athlete Kirsty Hodson gained points in the women's 800m, finishing 6th in 2:43.5.

The U17 ladies high jump was decided on countback when three athletes all finished on 1.50m. Ruth Laybourn and Emily Mason were declared 2nd and 3rd respectively by the officials.

Laura Robinson dominated the U15 girl's 100m race from the start, zipping through to win in 13.2secs. 3rd and 4th places were occupied by fellow Harriers Olivia Smith (13.7) and Nicole Welsh (13.8). Welsh was beaten into 2nd place in the long jump by Frances Noble (Bingley Harriers), who jumped 4.70m, with Welsh's best leap of the night being 4.47m.

Jasmine Wright had a fine run in the U13 girls 800m, with a close race seeing Skyrac AC runner Bethany Staniland home first with Wright a close 3rd in 2:48.7.

Wakefield supplied the first three athletes in the U17 ladies 100m, with Vicky Lambert winning in 13.1 secs. Ruth Laybourn was 2nd in 13.2, followed by Vicki Lockwood (13.7).

One of best performances was produced by Chloe Beckett in the U13 girls discus event, with the Harrier throwing 25.27m to record a league best performance.

Samantha Lambert running in the U11 girls 600m, just pipped Elizabeth Hall (Parkside Harriers) to triumph in a time of 1:59.3.

Another 2nd and 3rd place was achieved by Wakefield in the U11 girls long jump, with Michelle Harrison leading the way with 3.43m - to just edge out Lambert (3.28m).
