Wakefield Harriers had to settle for third spot at the latest match in Division 2 South East of the Northern Men's League at Thornes Park.

Weather conditions were very favourable for both athletes and officials, with a good crowd enjoying the track and field events throughout the afternoon.

Highlights included Harriers' Chris Hughff securing a win in the men's 110m men's hurdles over Robinson (Grantham AC), while Troy Kennedy, supporting in the B event, also gave Harriers top points. Hughff followed up with another two victories, in the 400m hurdles B race and the javelin A competition, ably supported by Mark Smith, who won the B event.

Paul Sutcliffe won by eight metres for Wakefield in the hammer B event, while Gary Slade triumphed in the triple jump only to unfortunately injure himself in the process.

Wakefield had mixed fortunes in the relays with their quartet disqualified in the 4x100m relay. In the longer 4x400m relay, the club were pipped into second place by Lincoln Wellington.

Match result: 1st Grantham 275 pts, 2nd Barnsley AC 266, 3rd Wakefield Harriers 258, 4th Lincoln Wellington, 5th Doncaster and Stainforth 249, 6th Scunthorpe and District AC 173.
