Wakefield Harriers took the honours as the top Yorkshire team in the women's Nike North of England Four stage relay race at Sefton Park in Liverpool.

Penny Thackray had to settle for fifth place on the opening stage one, with the Harrier well pleased with her run.

On the second stage, Shirley Griffiths also ran a good leg, improving three places to finish in second spot.

Salford Harriers just pipped Sale for the title, with Wakefield's quartet of Thackray (12:29), Griffiths (12:21), Sharon Marshall (13:40) and Alice Butler (14:01) finishing in an overall time of 52 mins 31 secs to ensure the side ended up a creditable 4th.
