Mike Logan produced fine form to take the 2000 Annual Club Christmas handicap championship held on our (more or less) traditional course on Thursday, 21st December. Handicaps were calculated based on the last three mid-week league results and Mike, off a handicap of 4 minutes 30 seconds on scratch man Craig Heppenstall, ran well above his form to win by 54 seconds over Clive Grace.

Twenty athletes turned out, not as many as we had hoped for, but with injuries, colds and work commitments taking their toll, we can be pleased with the interest being displayed - especially as there were nearly as many others turned up in the pub afterwards, making this event its usual social gathering. The days when we had over 40 athletes turning out on the Saturday morning before Christmas I doubt will ever be repeated, but in those days, club members of many different disciplines participated, including, at times, non-running parents (one actually won it on one occasion).

The ladies event was won by Dot Hand, 43 seconds up on Val Anderson.

It was good to see old friend Neil Devlin making his annual turn out, and also good to see non-regulars Alan Stainer, Keith Singleton, Eileen Twigg and Steve Butler.
