Sue and I came back from Canada to find a report from Stuart Anderson on the best attended league meeting for quite some time - brilliantly organised in our absence by Stuart and Val. 16 athletes turned out including, Craig Heppenstall (as Stuart put it "on his triumphant return from the groves of academia", BA Hons - well done Craig) and guest Mark Ridgeway. The course was approximately 4 undulating miles, on road, farm tracks, field and woodland path at Stanley Arms. This really is a superb venue - changing rooms (no showers this time as we didn’t give enough notice for the water to heat up) but there was a disco (a party had been cancelled - don’t expect this all the time) and a quiz. It has been reported that the disco dancing was of a very high standard, especially the demonstrations given by Mrs Domaille and sons and by Dot and Peter Hand. The quiz was won by a margin of one point by Stuart and Val Anderson.
Back to the running, Mark Ridgeway took both first place and the first handicap place (guests, by the way, can compete in the handicap prizes, but they can’t count in the league - points are awarded on the basis of members’ positions). Adam Cooper took the 10 points on offer for first home, with Craig Heppenstall picking up second place - it’s going to be interesting in the league places this year, folks.
