A smashing event last month, well organised by Craig Heppenstall. It really is good to see the members we remember as slips of a lad maturing into not only good quality athletes but good club members, willing to take on responsibility to boot. As I was trying to say at the presentations after the event, if participating athletes donít come forward in this way to do some of the organising, then athletics gets run by the older fogies who then lose sight of what it is really all about. Too many times the power lies with old men and women whose priorities are not the needs of the participating athletes (and this is the reason, by the way why we are not putting on the Yorkshire Road Relays this year). Anyway, enough of the soap-boxing - thanks Craig, for a good course (he even organised a wonderful sun-set and rainbow for those of us running slowly enough to see it) and to Maureen and Amanda and Kelly for their help too.
A goodish turn-out of 14 took part, including two guests, and even I managed to get a run. Both first man and lady were guests with Mark Ridgeway being first man home and Jenni Harrison (Leeds City) first lady. Guests. Of course canít count in the league but do participate in the handicap event for the evening. Craig Heppenstall fittingly took the first handicap prize, but only by a second over Steve Tibbs whilst Dot Hand, despite getting lost, managed to be 2 seconds ahead of Jenni on handicap.
