Wakefield Harriers made the short trip down the M1 to the Herringthorpe track in Rotherham for a McDonald's Young Athletics League meeting.

The under 13 age group had a tough time in their age group, although Jon Swift had two second places in the 200m and shot putt. Alistair Leneghan claimed another second place in the long jump. The next age group, the U15 section, secured 19 first places for Harriers, with the side winning both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

In his throwing events, Charles Handley completed a hat-trick after winning the shot, hammer and discus. Another three first places came from Daniel Cooper in the 1500m, 80m hurdles and pole vault. Completing the nap hand of trebles was Sam Handforth, triumphant in the 200m, 800m and long jump.

Two wins came from Richard Cooper in the 80m hurdles and pole vault, while William Maddock claimed a brace of first places in the 400m and high jump. A strong contingent in the U17 age group produced 11 first places. Martin Bernard enjoyed a hat-trick of successes in the 400m, high jump and hammer.

Steve Faulkner scooped two firsts and one second place in the shot putt, hammer and 400m respectively. Gareth Hall won the javelin and discus events, while Mark Lindsay claimed two wins in the javelin and discus - to seal a great team performance by Wakefield.
