Chase Corporate Challenge Championships

Wakefield Harriers' star middle distance runner Shirley Griffiths posted notice of her good winter form when she helped Royal Mail Letters to victory in the 3.5 mile Chase Corporate Challenge Championships held in New York.

The women's Royal Mail Letters' team was led home by Salford Harrier and 1999 AAA 10000m champ' Bev Jenkins (also the first woman home in 18:57), closely followed by Griffiths and Kathleen Holden (Carlisle) in 19:32 and 20:50 respectively.

The Championship is the culmination of the 2000 Chase Corporate Challenge, a series of 3.5 mile road races sponsored by Chase Manhattan Bank (NYSE:CMB) made up of 19 races in 15 Markets in three countries.

A total of 195,000 people from 5,800 companies have competed world-wide in 2000, with the winners from each race competing in the championships in New York.

This was the 24th running of the race that started and finished outside Chase HQ at 270 Park Avenue (Park Avenue and 48th Street).
