Al Aaron Cross Country Relays

Report by: Ron Needham

12th November 2000 - Middleton Park, South Leeds Stadium

The club put out three teams in this annual event which remembers a Leeds City member who gained the VC whilst losing his life on a Lancaster bomber raid on Germany during the second world war.

The club had some excellent performances. The A team produced a highly creditable fourth place, despite the late withdrawal of Andy Johnson owing to study commitments. Dave Needham ran well on 1st leg to come in 4th in 11-34. Steve Tibbs maintained the position in a time of 12-20, handing over to in form Craig Heppenstall whose time of 11-18 was sixth fastest of the day over-all, bringing the team into silver medal position. Rob Whitworth, Andy Johnson's later replacement was making his cross country debut for the club and ran a sound 13-00 to bring the team home just outside the medals. The team's time of 48-12 was just over 2 minutes behind winners Halifax Harriers.

The vets team actually won the vets team medals with Mike Logan (13-16), Steve Butler (13-10), Clive Grace ((12-59) and Richard West (12-54), whilst the B team finished 14th with Tony Audsley running 13-50, Tony White 13-08, Dave Brook 13-35 and Stuart Anderson 15-45.
