Biggest turn-out ever
A record 28 entries this
month, covering a course of approximately 2.5 miles around Wrenthorpe. When I think back to the times in the early
days when we could muster only 6 or 7 to some of the events! Another record - no one, not even Val
Anderson and Peter Farr, managed to get lost.
Our thanks to Tony Audsley for coming up with the course, and for
organising the sausages, chips and mushy peas at the pub afterwards.
Steve Tibbs’ challenge on
the title took a bit of a dint as he dropped to 4th place behind
Adam Cooper, although he retains a commanding lead. Things are very tight at the top of the veterans table, with Tony
Audsley making a “hidden” challenge after wrongly being categorised as V60 for
the best part of the season. In the
ladies table, Denise Green edged one more point ahead with her 24 seconds lead
over Jane Senior.
Accounts
We had £181-50 in the
kitty. 28 members paid £55-50. Prizes cost us £14-50 and the food at the
pub cost us £45, leaving us with a balance of £176-50. It was agreed at the event that, starting
with te January event, we would offer the opportunity for the race organiser to
arrange for food to be put on (at £1-50 per head). In the events when food is being put on, the entry fee will be
raised to £2-50 with non-runners paying their contribution of £1-50. If the organiser for any race can’t arrange
food, the entry fee for that race will be at the old entry fee of £1-50. Food will be available at the Christmas
handicaps, which should cost us about £40.
Next Event
Next month’s league event are the Christmas
Handicaps and will take place on the 19th December over the
traditional two lap of the park course.
Please be at the start/finish area of the track no later than 6-45. The Christmas Handicaps are run on a “start
handicap” basis (i.e. if you have 15 minutes start, you start 15 minutes before
the scratch man). Will last year’s
winner please remember to bring back the cup (nicely polished)? There is no entry fee. Instead, everyone running MUST bring a unisex prize to the
value of between £3 and £4, suitably wrapped (its true nature disguised if
possible). First back takes first
choice from the table, and so on.
Please don’t run if you don’t bring a prize. Food (kindly being put on by Dave Brooks) and presentations are in
the Magnet after the event. NB: in the
last few years. organising the event has been made incredibly difficult by juniors
and others running who have no “form” by which I can arrange handicaps and who
have often just run and not participated in the full aspect of the event (the
prize giving and the socialising afterwards).
I’m determined this year that, although entry to all distance league
events is open to any senior member of the club, no newcomers will be allowed
to take part without providing me with a recent 10k time and everyone must bring
a gift as entry. As the prize giving is
in a pub, no one under the age of 16 will be allowed to participate. That is not to stop other sections of the
club from arranging and officiating at their own handicap events on the same
night and on the same course if they wish to do so (in fact they would be
welcomed - as long as they don’t get mixed up in my results - it’s
hard enough handicapping and recording times and so on of upwards of 30 members,
without “strangers” getting mixed up in it all).
London Marathon
Stuart Anderson tells me
there are 5 club entries for London Marathon entries. Details of entry criteria will be published, I believe, after the
next Club Management Committee meeting.
