Strange goings-on at East Ardsley
Twenty two runners made
their way round a hilly course, designed by Steve Tibbs and Denise Green at
East Ardsley, the majority of them decked out in Halloween dress. There were some incredible sights. Steve “skeleton man” Tibbs led the way in,
only 1 second ahead of Tony White this time though. In the women’s event, that little devil Denise Green took the
honours over Jane Senior. There were
excellent runs by newcomers Janet Ibbotson and Liz Green, whilst Peter Farr
(the “Wichita Lineman” managed to get Stuart Anderson and Graham Whitworth
lost. The prize for best dressed ghoul
went to Mike Logan (although there is a rumour that the slavver was real),
closely followed by Dave Brook, whose mummy wrappings were dislodged by an
inquisitive child half way round the course.
Steve’s win puts him 16
points clear of Dave Brook at the top of division one. The Vets table, though remains very
interesting indeed with Stuart Anderson and Peter Farr tying and with Steve
Wilkinson only 4 points behind., and the ladies table sees Denise Green only 3
points ahead of Jane Senior.
Accounts
We had £162-50 in the
kitty. 22 members paid £33 and prizes
cost us £14, leaving us with a balance of £181-50. We intend to put on food at the Christmas handicaps, which should
cost us about £35. I’ve been asked if
we could raise the entrance fee to £2 after Christmas and then each monthly organiser
would be asked to arrange for £10 of food to be available after the run (e.g.
chip butties). What do members think to
that? I’d like to discuss this in the
pub after the prize giving at the November run. Please, though, bear in mind that this will mean the organiser
has to select a pub willing to do the food (if you’re not prepared to take your
turn and organise a monthly run on that basis, please don’t vote for it). We would also have to bear in mind that the
food would have to be sufficiently “neutral” so that everyone would want to eat
it -
mucky fat may sound like a good idea but I know that at least 6 regular members
wouldn’t want it.
Next Event
The next event will take
place on Thursday 21st November from The Pot Oil at Wrenthorpe (go
on the old Bradford Road to the lights
at the Andrassy’s cross roads and turn left.
The pub is in the village about half a mile down the road. Course is to
be designed by Tony Audsley. Enter on
the night (£1-50). Be there at 7-00 for
a 7-30 start (ladies starting about 7-15).
London Marathon
Stuart Anderson is sending
for the London Marathon entries. I have
no details as to how the entries will be allocated - presumably this will be
decided and publicised by the club’s management committee. There have, I am told, been questions (not
from distance runners themselves) about how fairly the places were allocated
previously. All I can say is that it
has always been done totally above board, strictly according with criteria
published well beforehand and that the process has always been totally
transparent. If anyone wishes to discuss this with me, I do wish they would
approach me personally - I’d be glad to
put them right. Many thanks to the distance
runners who defended me, by the way.
Apparently, the question has also been raised as to whether or not the
place allocations should be restricted to distance runners, or should anyone in
the club, shot-putters, sprinters, coaches, etc., be able to claim a
place. Previously, we took the view
that only serious distance runners should have the opportunity, but, as London
is becoming more and more of a fun run, perhaps there is a case for wider club
members to have the chance to “run.”
What do you think? Time to make
your opinions felt - give your opinions to Stuart Anderson.
