Additional Report on Younger Age Groups from Dave Radcliffe

5th January 2008 - Huddersfield

Under 13 Girls Olivia Radcliffe lead the race from the front for the majority of the race losing the lead with only 500m to go, finishishing a superb 2nd, qualifying for the County team. Other notable performances were from Libby Greatorex who in her first year as an under 13 finished 10th in a very strong girls field. The team finished 3rd over all behind winners Hallamshire H and Spenborough, with Beth Sharpe making up the 3rd counting runner in 18th. Other good runs were produced by Sally Spurr in 24th .

Under 13 Boys The boys continued the good work following on from the girls with all 4 entrants finishing in the Top 23. Both Jake Worton 6th and Jack Mitchell 7th had excellent runs to achieve selection for the County team. Daniel Franks 20th in his first yr as an under13 and Jack Richmond 23rd were the 3rd and 4th counters for the team that helped them finish 2nd overall behind winners Richmond & Zetland.

Under 15 Girls Yet again Lauren Proctor showed Yorkshire that she is the girl to beat, leading the race from start to finish setting an early blistering pace that split the field very early in the race. It soon became a 3 Girl race with Holly Shreeve of Bingley, Alex Bell of Pudsey & Bramley and Calli Thackery of Halllamshire the only girls able to hang on. Until eventually only Holly Shreeve being able to stay close enough to Lauren to push her all the way to the finish. Sally Smith in her first Year as an U15, finished an excellent 6th well clear of the 7th and 8th place runners easily qualifying for the county team. Sally given this and other results this season will surely be one of the girls to beat next season. Fine runs from Eleanor Richmond 27th, Louisa Long 30th made up the other 2 team counters giving the team a joint 1st team score with Hallamshire, who pipped them to first place only on a count back. Samantha Brook following on from an excellent track season finished 38th with a gutsy performance while Becky Lancaster ( Happy Birthday Becky) finished 46th. Becky as most of you know competes mainly in the sprint events so this is an excellent run given that this is not her natural event. A special mention should be given to Lauren Brook who unfortunately couldn't compete on the day due to illness, but given Laurens talent would surely have made the county team. ( get well soon Brooky ).

Under 15 Boys Wakefield entered 2 runners which unfortunately did not give them a team position, however Both Ashley Raby 27th and Ryan Hartley 45th gave an excellent account of them selves in what was a very strong field of 63. Both Ashley and Ryan are starting to make good progress and with continued training over the winter period will continue their improvement made this year.
