Complete Runner Cross Country League Round 4

7th December 2008 - Thornes Park, Wakefield

The club successfully hosted the 4th and final meeting of the Complete Runner Cross Country League at Thornes Park, with the meeting incorporating the Club Cross Country Championships. Three Harriers took individual victories, and there were also good team victories from the U13 boys, U17 boys, U13 girls and U17 girls, to complete a very successful day for the Harriers.

The most emphatic win of the day was by last year's Northern U15 cross country champion Lauren Proctor, returning from a long layoff through injury to comfortably win her first U17 girl's race. Other wins were recorded by Daniel Franks, who won the U13 boy's race ahead of team-mate Michael Callaly, and by Libby Greatorex who took the U13 girl's race.

Helen Singleton had her first outing over the country and finished an excellent 5th in the senior ladies race, and with Sarah Beevers finishing a fine 15th and Pat Wood and Dianne Simmons completing the scoring the team finished 7th. Lauren Proctor was backed up in the U17 girl's race by Alice Lightfoot (12th) and Sarah Franks (20th) to win their first team race of the season. The leading girl U15 girl performer was Lauren Brooke, who came 4th after setting the early pace, and with team-mates Louisa Long coming 8th & Olivia Radcliffe 14th the team won a close team race. The U13 girl's team were 3rd, led home by winner Libby Greatorex and with Annabell Mason in 8th and Sally Spur 30th. The U11 girl's team wasn't complete, but Kennedy Nuttall had a fine run to finish 4th.

The senior men's team again packed well to finish 8th team, and there was a good 3-way battle for the club championships. With one lap to go Chris Price, Neil Penn & Carl Quinn were locked together, but Chris came good on the last lap to retain the title in 44th place, from Neil in 50th & Carl in 55th. Martin Green was 4th scorer in 69th place, followed by Neil Dutton (82nd) and Chris Ward (111th) to complete the team, as they finished 8th. In the U17 men's race we only had 3 of our runners available, but with just 3 to score their quality told as Sam Bucknell (5th), Dale Worton (6th) and Thomas Atkinson (10th), took the team race by just a single point. Once again the U15 boys had no 4th scorer to complete the team, but Jordan Turner (10th), Jack Mitchell (14th) & Jack Richmond (24th) all performed well. After the leading duo of Daniel & Michael in the U13 boys race, Benjamin Read (12th) & William Ingram (17th) ensured the team were victorious. Adam Lofthouse was our only runner in the U11 boys event, coming 25th.
